Program Description

Sound Messages, Using Linguistics for Better Communication

Presenter: John Werner

Join us on January 12th for an interactive and ears-on-the-brain learning experience on vocal communication and the three non-verbal components that influence our everyday speech. Learn how together the three voice variables of intonation, volume, and word-speed become the keystone to effective and complete spoken emotional content.

When the intonation, volume, and word-speed do not support the words, a “spoken oxymoron” can form sending a confusing message. If employee groups build skills in sending and receiving spoken messages with all three variables aligned to improve their communication, they can prevent repeated exasperating moments that reduce productivity and efficiency. There are many other benefits to increased mindfulness of intonation, volume, and word-speed including greater understanding of speech heard and our own words spoken.

Key takeaways from the session:

  • The four steps to understand every spoken emotional message.
  • Recognize emotional bravery.
  • Learn who is the Sound Herd and why they are important.
  • Learn how Sound Messages can add meaning to the otherwise nebulous emotions in speech.
