Program Description

Unconscious Bias in our OD Work

Presenters:

Toni McMurphy, St. Louis College of Pharmacy

Steven Player, Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Erin Stampp, Barnes-Jewish Hospital

To be human is to have bias – both conscious and unconscious.  Join us as we explore the impact of bias in OD and how our interpretations of people and situations can help or hinder the effectiveness of our work and outcomes.

This highly interactive session will provide the following takeaways:

  • Appreciating that the fields of Organization Development and Diversity & Inclusion offer a plethora of interdependent opportunities regarding objectives, practitioner skills and potential impact.
  • Identifying the multiple dimensions of social identity
  • Understanding how our individual socialization contributes to a “lens” through which we interpret the world around us.
  • Recognizing that the people we work with have also constructed “lenses” – which will be unique to them.
  • How to mitigate the negative impact of unconscious bias in our lives and work.

You'll also hear about efforts underway at BJC, the Washington University School of Medicine, and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
