PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Ennobling Spirited Leadership: Core Communicative Competencies

Presenters:

Thomas Gregory, M.A., & Leah C. Lorendo, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Most leaders tend to emphasize their strength, competence, and credentials in the workplace. Instead, research shows that the way to influence and lead is to begin with warmth—the conduit of influence. As the authors of a Harvard Business Review article entitled “Connect, Then Lead”* have written, “By prioritizing warmth, you can connect immediately with those around you, demonstrating that you hear them, understand them, and can be trusted by them.”  Warmth facilitates trust, which is essential in sharing information, gaining acceptance of ideas, and encouraging people to change their attitudes and behavior.

In this program, you’ll learn specific methods to immediately apply to everyday leadership communication exchanges.  You will engage with concepts from a proven methodology called Ennobling Spirited Leadership℠ which focuses on how to communicate with warmth and strength in a way that builds trust.  You’ll also work with examples and demonstrations of Vocal Distinction℠, a method of creating compelling vocal style that has been used to help a range of people—from leaders to TED talk presenters—communicate in a concise and compelling way.  You will take away specific ideas for making deliberate and informed communication choices.
