Presenter: Terrence Donahue, Corporate Director of Learning at Emerson Electric

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This session outlines how a multinational company of 90,000 employees conceived, developed, and executed a global leadership development program that is achieving sustained, relevant, compelling, and credible business outcomes. In the process, Emerson’s Chief Financial Officer became the key advocate for the initiative and delivers the call to action and accountability message.

Leading at Emerson is a required workshop for all new supervisors, managers, and directors across Emerson’s 67 business entities at over 220 locations around the world. Leading at Emerson was not designed simply as a Leadership Development Course—it was designed as an operating system for how to manage and lead others.

By following the process outlined in the best-selling book The Six Disciplines of Breakthrough Learning, we will describe how, at each phase, we applied a disciplined and business-oriented approach to create a single and standard global leadership development initiative. We will also describe how Emerson’s CFO became an active advocate for this learning investment.

This session will enable you to:

  • Gain commitment from senior executives for investing in leadership development by focusing on business outcomes.
  • Move your leadership training from an “event” to an operating system by designing a complete learning experience for learners and their managers.
  • Increase the transfer of knowledge and skills from learning and leadership development programs by implementing a practical and proven post-workshop implementation phase.
